I started my textile career working as assistant to Wendy Froud a well-known doll and puppet maker. In this role I dressed Princess Anne, Prince Charles and Mark Philips for Spitting Image and helped create some chicken puppets for a Paxo commercial. I also dressed some dolls for Jim Henson based on characters in his film The Dark Crystal. After this I went on to teach Embroidery and also to run Community textile projects notably one for the V&A.
Although I have experimented with many different types of embroidery I tend to favour work with a humorous content using the construction techniques I learnt from Wendy. For a while I concentrated on creating life-size soft sculpture cloth gargoyles making series such as The Seven Deadly Sins and The Office Party. At the moment my work seems to have shrunk and I am currently working on small humorous figures. Again I like grouping these so I have just completed The W.I. Outing and am currently working on some film stars for an automaton called The Red Carpet. I have also gone back to puppet making working on creating some disreputable ladies wearing purple.
